Shag Harbour and the Object That Went Under

On the evening of 4 October 1967 several dozen people in this Nova Scotia fishing village watched an object with four lights descend and enter the water of the sound, leaving a yellow foam on the surface. It is a rare case investigated not by a UFO organisation but by a state: the Royal Canadian Mounted Police sent a boat out, fishermen joined the search, and Royal Canadian Navy divers searched the bottom for three days. They found nothing. The file is held in Library and Archives Canada under the heading "unidentified flying object" — unusual wording for an official document. The village has had a small museum of the incident since the 1990s.
