The Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Kyzylorda Region of Kazakhstan is the world's first and largest operational spaceport, long surrounded by reports and rumors of unidentified flying objects. Particular intrigue surrounds accounts by Soviet military personnel and rocket engineers describing glowing spheres, discs, and light beams observed over launch pads and ballistic missile silos.

According to ufological lore and local tales from the closed city of Leninsk (now Baikonur), silent disc-shaped craft and plasma spheres hovered over launch facilities during major space missions and strategic missile tests. Rumors claimed extraterrestrials were actively monitoring Soviet nuclear capabilities, scanning complexes with energy beams, and temporarily jamming telemetry systems, allegedly forcing the military to draft classified contact protocols at Gagarin's Start.
What actually happened?
The vast majority of "anomalies" over Baikonur were purely technogenic. During twilight and dawn rocket launches, high-altitude exhaust plumes and fuel jettisons were illuminated by the sun from beyond the horizon, producing the "space jellyfish" effect.
