Honey Island Swamp and Its Monster
0
One of the least disturbed swamps in the United States, nearly seventy thousand acres of cypress in Louisiana. In 1974 two hunters brought out plaster casts of tracks: four toes, webbed, matching neither alligator nor bear. Local legend has the creature descended from chimpanzees escaped from a circus train and crossed with swamp alligators — biology has nothing to say for it, but the story holds.
